AMEER BUX VS State S. 23(1)(a)--- Possession of illegal weapon--- Appreciation of evidence---Police witnesses---Scope---Evidence of the Police Officials could not be discarded simply because they belonged to police force---Where the fate of the accused persons hinged upon the testimony of Police Officials alone, it was necessary to find out if there was any possibility of securing independent persons at the relevant time---In the present case, availability of the private witnesses could have been easily arranged, but it was avoided by police---Accused in his statement recorded under S. 342, Cr.P.C., had claimed false implication in the case---Evidence of the Police Officials without independent corroboration would be unsafe for maintaining the conviction, in circumstances.
