MUHAMMAD ANAS VS State S. 164---Confession, retraction of---Scope---If the confessional statement of the accused was found voluntary, conviction could be recorded, but the rule of caution required that a retracted confession must be supported by some other independent evidence connecting the accused with the crime---Judicial consensus were that the retracted confession was always open to suspicion and could not be acted upon unless it was corroborated by available independent, trustworthy and thorough truthful witnesses.
