Syed ASAD ALI SHAH VS The CHIEF EDITOR, DAILY JANG S.9---Defamation---General damages and special damages---Quantum of damages---Distinction---Distinction has to be drawn between general damages and special damages---General damages normally pertain to agony suffered through defamatory statement---In such cases, generally no yardstick can be applied for ascertaining exact amount of monetary loss sustained---In awarding general damages, Courts are to apply rule of thumb, according to which discretion rests within the Court to calculate such compensation keeping in view the attending circumstances of each case.
