SHAHZAD LIAQAT VS State. Substitution of accused---Scope---Substitution of real offender with innocent person. Substitution of the real offender with an innocent person, especially by closely related witnesses who had suffered the trauma of losing a near relative, was an extremely rare phenomenon and was not to be lightly presumed. Where witnesses were closely related to deceased but their presence was natural, their testimony remained consistent and confidence inspiring, and no material existed suggesting false implication, mere relationship could not justify discarding their evidence.
