ZAFFAR HUSSAIN KHAN VS FEDERAL GOVERNMENT Ss. 4 & 6---Price control---Petitioner assailed wheat price fixed by authorities---Validity---To have price control of essential commodities, Punjab Price Control of Essential Commodities Act, 2024 has been promulgated with the clear object to make provisions for providing effective mechanism for fixing of prices of essential commodities; to control artificial price hike and profiteering of essential commodities in Punjab; and for matters ancillary thereto---Price Control Council is empowered under S.4 of Punjab Price Control of Essential Commodities Act, 2024directly or through Provincial Controller General or authorized officer to make orders for regulating prices, production and sale of essential commodities and for the price to be charged or paid for it at any stage of transaction therein---Price Control Council, under S.6 of Punjab Price Control of Essential Commodities Act, 2024 is further authorized to give directions for fixing specific maximum prices of the essential commodities---Functionaries can also review the prices so fixed or extend the period if the circumstances so demand---High Court directed the authorities to take necessary measures to ensure implementation of Punjab Price Control of Essential Commodities Act, 2024 and its object---Constitutional petition was disposed of accordingly.
